Guest Lecture on Corporate Etiquette : Dept. of Commerce and Business Administration

The Department of Commerce and Business Administration of Besant Women’s College organized an interactive session for all the final year students on Corporate Etiquette. The programme was coordinated by Prof. Vidya Bhat and Miss Ashwini Prabhu. About 60 students had participated in the session. The session was held on 6th October 2023 in the college auditorium at 2.30 p.m. The resource person for the programme was Ms.Nanditha Sunil, MSNM, Bondel.

Prof. Syed Kahdar, Mrs Jayashree, Ms Shobhitha and Mrs Chanchalakshi were also present for the session.

Ms. Nanditha initiated the lecture by emphasizing the significance of social gracing in professional settings. She underscored the impact of etiquette on personal and corporate image. The speaker delved into various categories of etiquette, shedding light on their distinct applications in business environments. She also provided an insightful demonstration and explanation of different types of handshakes, highlighting their cultural implications and appropriate contexts for each Faux Pas during Interviews- this segment of the lecture was particularly enlightening. The speaker outlined common mistakes individuals make during interviews, stressing the need for meticulous preparation and self-awareness.

Objectives:

  • To educate participants on the significance of proper corporate etiquette
  • To be clear with social gracing and its role in building effective associations
  • Equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to execute appropriate handshakes, taking into account cultural sensitivities and contexts.
  • Educate attendees about common interview blunders and how to avoid them.

Outcomes:

●Attendees learned how to project a polished and professional image.

● Empower individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to progress in their careers

●Recognize and avoid common interview faux pas.

The guest lecture delivered by Ms. Nanditha Sunil was highly informative and engaging. The topics covered were pertinent to both novice job seekers and seasoned professionals, making the session relevant for a diverse audience. The interactive nature of the lecture encouraged active participation and ensured that the concepts were thoroughly understood and was a valuable addition to our knowledge base on professional conduct in the corporate world.
