Workshop on Culinary Skills: Department of Commerce and Business Administration

Department of Commerce and Business Administration, Besant Women's College conducted a two-day workshop on culinary skills for Final year students of the college. 16th and 17th April 2024, Ms. Komal Prabhu, Managing Partner of Maharaja Group was the resource person. They showcased many dishes, some of which were kotthige, set dosa, tomato bath, sambar, pickles, chutneys etc.

Objectives

  1. To develop proficiency in basic cooking techniques such as chopping, sautéing, grilling, and baking.
  2. To enhance knowledge of ingredient selection, flavor combinations, and food presentation.
  3. To improve time management and organization skills in the kitchen.
  4. To cultivate creativity and innovation in recipe development and menu planning.
  5. To gain practical experience in working in a professional kitchen environment.
  6. To develop teamwork and communication skills while collaborating with other chefs and kitchen staff.

Dr. Praveen Kumar K.C. The Principal appreciated the program and praised Komal Prabhu for taking the initiative to enrich our students. Coordinators - Mrs. Vidya Bhat, Mrs. Latha, Mrs. Nayana and Shaila Kamath, Prof Syed Kahdar, HoD Department of Commerce and Business Administration was also present for the programme. Other included Gayatri Hod Department of Home Science. Mrs. Sharvya, Mrs. Prithvi, Mrs. Ranjini, Mrs. Raviprabha, Mrs. Usha Shetty, Mrs. Swati.. Dr. Manjula KT distributed the certificate after the program.

Outcome:

  1. By honing their culinary skills, students improved cooking abilities.
  2. Culinary skills can helped the students to think outside the box and experiment with different flavors, ingredients, and cooking techniques to create unique and innovative dishes.
  3. Students become more organized and efficient in the kitchen, allowing them to prepare meals more quickly and effectively.
  4. Healthier eating habits were created among the students
  5. Cooking and sharing meals with others can facilitate the students build stronger relationships and create lasting memories with friends and family.
