48TH ANNUAL ATHLETICS MEET – 2025–26
The Department of Physical Education of Besant Women’s College, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), successfully organized the 48th Annual Athletic Meet – 2025–26 at Mangala Stadium on November 10, 2025.
The event was inaugurated by Mrs. Sandhyamani, Head Constable at DCRE Police Station Urwa, Chief Minister’s Gold Medallist, and National-level Volleyball Player.
In her inaugural address, the Chief Guest highlighted the importance of sports in a student’s overall development, emphasizing that participation in sports nurtures discipline, patience, teamwork, and leadership qualities. She also underscored the role of physical activity in promoting both physical and mental well-being. Appreciating the college’s commitment to women’s empowerment through education, she encouraged students to actively engage in academics, sports, and cultural pursuits to lead lives of dignity, confidence, and self-respect.
The function was presided over by Sri. Manel Annappa Nayak, President of the Women’s National Education Society. The event was attended by Dr. Praveen Kumar K.C., Principal of the College; Mrs. Roopathi M., Director of Physical Education; Mrs. Gayathree K., Lecturer in the Department of Home Science, who served as the Master of Ceremonies and welcomed the gathering; and Dr. Lokaraj V.S., Sports Committee Member, who proposed the vote of thanks. The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of faculty members, administrative staff, and students.
Miss. Shakira (III B.A.), the Sports Secretary, had the honour of leading the torch, symbolizing the spirit of sportsmanship. Miss. Sakshi D. Amin (III B.Com) emerged as the Individual Champion of the meet, showcasing exceptional athletic talent. The students actively took part in a range of athletic events, displaying energy, enthusiasm, and team spirit, which made the meet a grand success.
Objectives of the Programme
- To encourage students to participate actively in sports and physical fitness activities.
- To promote qualities such as discipline, teamwork, leadership, and perseverance among students.
- To provide a platform for identifying and nurturing athletic talent within the college.
- To enhance awareness of the importance of physical and mental health in holistic education.
