Hand-knotted round carpet making: EDP cell

May 28, 2022

The resource person of EDP Cell, Ms Harini Rai decided to make a difference in the lives of students. Presently she is a Chairman of the District Small Industries Association Women's Wing, Mangalore. She has taken up more than 1000 Women's Entrepreneurship Programmes from Puttur to Udupi District. She taught our students a hand-knotted round carpet made up of old cotton saree. A hand-knotted carpet is unique and is made knot by knot on a loom often using an old cotton saree. It is a wealth from waste. In a hand-knotted carpet, the weaving and knots will be slightly uneven and not always exact and even. But it has long durability. The time taken for weaving would depend on the quality and size of the carpet.
