Guest Lecture On Analytical Techniques : Department of PG Studies in Food Science & Nutrition

The Department of PG studies in Food Science & Nutrition organized a Guest lecture for the students of 1st MSc FSN on the topic of Analytical techniques in Chemistry on 14th July 2023. The resource person for the lecture was Ms. Adithi, Lecturer, Department of Chemistry, Besant Women’s College, Mangalore. Ms. Adithi in detail explained the concepts used in analytical chemistry which would be of great help for the students to pursue research as well as in the field of food technology. The session consisted of both theoretical as well as practical aspects. In the theoretical part, Ms. Adithi was briefed about the concept of normality, molarity, molality, atomic number, atomic weight, importance of molecular formulas. She even gave a few problems to the students in order to understand the concept in a better way. With respect to the practical aspects, Ms. Adithi explained on the precautions during titration, spectroscopy handling, dilution of acids, and measurement of colored & colorless solution in order to prevent manual errors in obtaining the results. By the end of the session, the students were thorough with the above-mentioned topics & asked a few questions regarding the calculation of molecular weight, molar & molal weight.
