Blood donation camp : Red Cross

On 8 May 2023 youth red cross unit, alumni association of besant womens college in association with Lions club Ashoknagar mangalore jointly organised BLOOD DONATION CAMP in the college auditorium. CA Shantharm shetty Chairman IRCS DK district wad the inaugurator of the program. The chief guest Ms Kusuma Rao president Lions club Ashoknagar said the importance of donating blood and how it is helpful to save someone’s life . Dr Manjula K T was the guest of honor and conveyed her best wishes to the program. Dr Sathish kumar shetty presided over the function the main objective to conduct blood donation is to inculcate the value of helping others through involving self in life saving contribution of blood donation.

It is a unique programme conducted by the institution every year from Red Cross unit. Institutions raise awareness among all the stakeholders that individuals can save lives and improve the health of others by donating blood. This will encourage people to donate blood voluntarily without compensation and support the operation of safe and reliable blood services.

“One unit of blood can save up to 3 lives. You can donate blood every three months. It only takes 48 hours for your body fluids to be completely replenished.”

Support to critical patients: Blood donation camps are organized with the purpose of supplying blood to the blood banks for the need of patients suffering from cancer, hemophilia, and thalassemia or accident victims.

Blood donors save lives more donors are desperately needed. The Red Cross supports voluntary blood donation without compensation. Regular donors are the basis of a safe and sustainable distribution system of blood products, providing blood to those who need it. A safe and reliable blood donor system offers important support for health services.

Outcome:

  • The camp was very successful and appreciated by all the people including blood banks. 72 units of blood collected. People have appreciated the blood camp conducted by Beasant women’s college , Mangaluru , along with the red cross association and blood bank unit.
  • Student’s are eager to donate blood. The student’s enthusiasm motives the institution to organize many programs like this.
