Transition of Waste Materials to Musical Instruments – Symphony from Scraps: Fine Arts Association

The Fine Arts Association of Besant Women’s College, Mangaluru, in association with IQAC, organized Transition of Waste Materials to Musical Instruments – Symphony from Scraps on 15th October 2025 in the college auditorium.

The event encouraged students to showcase their creativity by preparing musical instruments using waste and recyclable materials within a time limit of one hour. The competition received enthusiastic participation from students across all streams. They used items such as bottles, tins, cardboard, and other discarded materials to create imaginative and functional musical instruments. The participants not only displayed artistic talent but also conveyed a strong message on environmental conservation and the importance of reusing waste. The event concluded with a brief demonstration of the instruments, filling the atmosphere with rhythm and creativity. The judges appreciated the students’ efforts and innovative ideas.

Objectives:

  1. To promote creativity and innovation among students through the creation of musical instruments from waste materials.
  2. To spread awareness about environmental protection and the importance of recycling through artistic expression.

Outcomes:

  1. Students developed innovative thinking and learned how to convert waste materials into useful and artistic creations.
  2. The competition fostered teamwork, creativity, and a sense of environmental responsibility among participants.
