Student Awareness programme on Drug abuse
The Womencell of the Besant Women’s College, in association with Prajna CounsellingCentre and Mangalore City Police Department jointly organized student awarenessprogramme on drug abuse on 26th Feb. 2018 at the collegeauditorium. City joint police commissioner Uma Prashanth inaugurating the programmesaid, though men addicts of narcotic drugs more often found than women, having information about the ill effects ofaddiction women can sensitize the society around them and save children andyoung people from falling prey to drugs. Advising the students participating in the programme she said, the preciouslife will be laid useless to society and the self if the people get addicted todrugs in an early age. Though the come back to normal life is not impossible itis very difficult. Hence awareness amongyouth along with awakening is the purpose of such programme.
Through aPPT presentation she explained the present condition of drug abuse among theyoung population in the city. The action taken and the efforts of creatingawareness in by the police department were explained in the presentation.
The convenerof Prajna Counseling center Sri. Anand Attavar opined, the children and theyoung people are abusing petrol, Fevicol, Paint, Whitener, Nail Polish andAmruthanjana by sniffing explaining the instances of various cases in the city. Anand Kundar, a counselor of Prajnaexplained, the kinds of drugs and the effects of drug on any addict he warnedthe audience members that drug cause depression, moods swing, confusion,doubts, inability to live relationship, hallucination, loss of immunity, socialboycott and finally suicide.
Sri KudpiJagadish Shenoy, President, WNES, preside over the function called up studentsto develop awareness to keep away from drugs and live fruitful life. Dr. SudhaK., Convenor Womens Cell welcomed, Student secretary Srinidhi thanked, Jeevithacompeered.
