Community Service Programme: Dept. of English- 2019-2020
The Department of English of Besant Women’s College conducted a CommunityService Programme in association with Lions Club, Mangalore, for the inmates ofRiya Foundation on 14th January 2020 in the college auditorium. RiyaHope Farm Kulshekar, is a therapeutic residential centre for people with different learning environment .Sri Kudupi Jagadish Shenoy presided overthe programme. Mrs.Keerthana Kumar andMr Ashley Fernandes the Founder Directors of Ria Foundation were the ChiefGuests. Ln Shekhar Pujari , President of Lions Club Mangalore, Ln JayarajPrakash, Assistant Director,Agriculture Department, Sri Manel Annappa Nayak,Vice President of WNES, Sri. K. Devanand Pai , Secretary of WNES and Correspondentof the college , Principal Dr. SathishKumar Shetty were the Guests of Honour. Mrs Roopa, Lecturer, welcomed the gathering.Prof Preetha Bhandary, Head of the Department of English proposed the vote ofthanks.
The donations collected by the staff andstudents were handed over to MrsKeerthana Kumar. She and Mr Ashley Fernandes briefed the audience on theinception and the working of Riya Foundation. The President and the Principalencouraged the students to render service to society and congratulated theFounders for the noble work done by them. Ln Shekhar Pujari promised to extendmore support to Riya Foundation in future too.The students of Besant Women’sCollege had been training the inmates in dance, crafts and basic life skills. The inmates of Riya and the students of BesantWomen’s College presented culturalprogramme and entertained the audience..
