World Food Day- Mandala Art Competition : Department of PG Studies in Food Science & Nutrition
The department of P.G Studies in Food Science and Nutrition, Besant Women’s College organised mandala art competition on account of World Food Day on the theme ‘Water is life, water is food. Leave no one behind’ on 16th October 2023 for UG and PG students.
OBJECTIVE
- To provide a platform for the students to show case their creativity and artistic skills.
- To enlighten the students about the importance of water in our food chain and a means to sustain life on earth.
OUTCOME
- The activity helped the students to learn time management.
- The students understood the important role played by water in our daily lives and importance of using this resource wisely.

World Food Day is celebrated worldwide on 16th October to commemorate the establishment of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 1945 and to raise awareness about hunger, malnutrition, sustainability, and food production. This year’s theme for World Food Day ‘Water is life, water is food. Leave no one behind’ throws light on significant role played by water for sustenance of life on earth and the need to use this finite valuable resource with great care.
In connection to World Food Day mandala art competition was held in the seminar hall in M.com block at 2.30 p.m. The notice pertaining to the competition was sent to all the class mentors to encourage the students to participate in the competition. The event was co-ordinated by Ms. Indira Badya and Ms.Nireeksha V. A total of 18 students participated in the competition. The mandala arts done by the students were judged by alumni of the college; Ms. Aysiamath Shahada Firhath M.A and Ms. Deepika B, faculties of Yenepoya Institute of Arts, Science, Commerce and Management on the following aspects
- Adherence to the theme
- Originality
- Artistic competition
- Overall visual impact
- In accordance with the given instructions
The final results are as follows
1st place- Ashya Afrah of 2nd B.Sc Home Science
2nd place- Vaishnavi of 2nd B.Sc FND
3rd place- Sathvi KG of 2nd M.Sc FSN.
The students were asked to fill a feedback form . E-certificates were given to the participants and winners.
