DESCRIPTION OF THE ACTIVITY:
On 03rd November 2023, an educational industrial visit was organized for the students of III B.Sc. FND to KMF Mangalore. The objective of the visit was to provide the students with practical knowledge of milk and milk product processing and packaging
The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) is a dairy cooperative from Karnataka, India, which sells products such as milk, curds, ghee, butter, ice cream, chocolates, and sweets under the brand name Nandini. It is a federation of milk producers under the ownership of Ministry of Cooperation, Government of Karnataka. Almost every district in Karnataka has milk producing co-operatives. The milk is collected from farmers who are its members, processed and sold in the market under the Nandini brand.
The visit commenced security check and we were provided with guide Ms. Kavya who explained about milk processing and and packaging.
The visit included observing various processes such as curd and lassie production, milk processing, packaging, and storing, paneer making and creation of products like ghee, peda, and flavoured milks. Students also learned about specific temperature and methods involved in the process such as pasteurization, cooling and packaging .moreover the visit also included the tour to quality control department ,they are laboratories were the quality of milk and its product was monitored. The visit was an enriching experience, provided the practical knowledge .it also provided valuable insights that will be beneficial for the students
The students returned with newfound knowledge and enthusiasm, better equipped to excel in their academic pursuits and future careers in the food and nutrition field.
