Virtual session on the Investor Awareness Program (the SEBI SMART Initiative): Department of Commerce and Business Administration

The Department of Commerce and Business Administration organized a virtual session on the Investor Awareness Program (the SEBI SMART Initiative). The session aimed to provide knowledge about the capital markets and investments, enabling students to make informed financial decisions in the future. The session also created awareness about SMART Online Dispute Resolution (SMART ODR) Mechanism and how to be a prudent investor. ]

Objectives of the session:

  1. To familiarize students with the concept of investing and the importance of early savings.
  2. To introduce the basics of capital markets, including primary and secondary markets.
  3. To highlight the different investment avenues such as equities, mutual funds, bonds, insurance, and bank deposits.
  4. To educate the students on Indian Securities Market – Depository System
  5. To instil the importance of setting financial goals for long-term wealth creation

Outcome of the session:

  1. Students developed an understanding of the importance of financial literacy in daily life.
  2. The session encouraged students to cultivate saving and investment habits from an early stage.
  3. Students recognized the need for informed decision-making rather than speculative or impulsive investing.
  4. The session empowered participants to be more vigilant and responsible investors, aware of their rights and regulatory protections.

Financial literacy is a crucial life skill. The program created an awareness about savings, investments, risk, and the role of capital markets in wealth creation. The session encouraged the students to be financially responsible individuals. The session was co-ordinated by Ms. Anupa Baliga and Ms. Latha Hebbar.
