Training in Making of Decorative Garlands: Folk Culture 2021
BWCNS, December 11, 2021: The art of making Garlands has been practiced in India since time immemorial. flowers play a central role in any religious and cultural activities and significant life events. Garlands of flowers are also used for decorative purposes and presented as a sign of blessing and honor. Flowers and leaves are used for making garlands. For deities a garland is a symbol to welcome auspiciousness. Garlands remain a medium to express sentiments of purity, honor, goodwill, love and beauty.
The folk culture club of our College invited Ms. Swathi, Lecturer in Home Science to train the students to make garlands on December 11, 2021 at 11.30 am.
Outcome of the Programme
The students enjoyed learning the process of garland making interleaved with flowers, leaves and few strands of grass.
It helped to make the students understand the importance of the garlands which has been traditionally followed from several years.
The art of tying the knots in different ways were learnt and practiced. This helps to make the garland fanciful and a treat to the eyes and at the same time holds the flowers in tact in the Garland.
