Training on Indoor Folk Culture Game- CHENNAMANE: Folk Culture 2021
The Folk Culture club of our College organised a training programme on playing CHENNAMANE. The popular indoor folk game 'CHENNAMANE’ is usually played during Aati. Our ancestors preferred to play this game during AAti, because there was not much activity in the agricultural field during this time. Traditionally, CHENNAMANE is played on the full moon day in 'Aati' month after drinking Metteda Ganji. Then the boards are kept away and removed only during next Aati.
Game: The Concept used in CHENNAMANE play is linked with agriculture. Some of them are 'Bule Perga', (The produce earned) and 'Muguli' (three seeds) denoting germination of a plant. The game is played using red coloured 'Manjotti' seeds of a creeper. This game exhibited the strong bond that our people had with agriculture.
This game can be played by three players or two players. It is said that this game was played by Goddess Sita while she was waiting for Lord Rama.
The training of this game was imparted to the members of the Folk Club by the administrative Staff, Mrs Hemalatha and Ms. Pavithra. Students enjoyed seeing and learning this game. Dr. Satheesh, Assistant Professor from the Department of Economics welcomed and briefed about the importance of the folk game. Ms Varsana, Folk Culture Club Secretary proposed the vote of thanks. Students showed a great interest in learning this game.
The Staff members of the CLUB Mr. Raviraj and Ms. Swathi also assisted for the success of the programme.
Outcome of the programme: The Students got an Bird’s eye view of the Tulu Culture and heritage. This game is aimed at improving their eye - hand coordination and concentration while playing. This also helps the teenagers of the younger generation to spend Quality time with the elders of the family thus strengthening the family ties.
