On 23rd August 2024, Besant Women's College Mangalore organized a silent protest to raise awareness about the pressing issue of women's safety, following the mistreatment of a female doctor. This protest highlighted the urgent need for societal reforms to protect women, particularly those working in vulnerable professions such as healthcare.
The protest was led by Student Welfare Officer Ms. Ranjini, the Dean of Languages, Professor Preetha, alongside Ms. Jnaneshwari, Department of Kannada who delivered powerful speeches focusing on the critical importance of safeguarding women in our society. They addressed the grave issues of rape, murder, and violence against women, underscoring the necessity for stronger legal protections and more robust support systems. The students' silent protest brought attention to the broader challenges women face, especially in professional settings where they often lack sufficient protection. Students displayed posters and prepared reels to raise awareness among the society about this issue
The protest at Besant Women's College was a pivotal moment in the ongoing struggle for women's safety. It emphasized the college community's commitment to advocating for the rights and protection of women, calling for immediate and meaningful changes to address the systemic issues that endanger their lives and well-being.
