OBJECTIVES:
The Primary objective of this session was to educate and empower students with self-defence techniques to ensure their safety and instil confidence while dealing with adverse or threatening situations
A session on Self-Defence Techniques was organized by the Prevention of Sexual Harassment Cell (PoSH) of Besant Women’s College, Mangaluru. The event featured a live demonstration by Ms. Nethra, a talented First B. Com student and trained karate practitioner, who showcased a series of self-defence moves and explained their relevance and application in real-life scenarios — transforming fear into fuel.
Ms. Shobitha, the member of Poish committee welcomed the gathering. Convenor of the PoSH Cell, Mrs. Hemalatha, emphasized the importance of equipping young women with the tools and skills necessary to defend themselves. She spoke passionately about the need to create a culture of self-reliance and highlighted how such sessions help students feel empowered and protected
Dr. Praveen Kumar K. C., Principal of the college, graced the event and shared his words of encouragement with the participants. He appreciated the initiative taken by the PoSH Cell and stressed the importance of such training sessions in fostering a safe and secure environment.
Dr. Manjula K. T., Vice President of WNES and Correspondent of BWC, conveyed her best wishes for the programme.
The live demonstration by Ms. Nethra engaged the students actively. With hands-on guidance and practical tips, she turned the stage into a battlefield of confidence, making the session both informative and inspiring.
OUTCOMEs
The session had a significant impact on the student participants. They gained awareness about personal safety and learned practical self-defence moves that can be applied in real-life situations. The session acted as a torch in the dark, lighting up the path to self-confidence. It also instilled in them the importance of mental strength alongside physical readiness — teaching them to stand tall like a mountain, even in the face of adversity.
