The Youth Red Cross Unit of Besant Women’s College, Mangaluru, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organized a highly informative and interactive Medicinal Plant Exhibition and Competition titled Sassya Sanjeevini on 30th October 2024. The event was inaugurated by Prof. Rajshekar Hebbar, Administrative Officer, Women’s National Education Society (WNES).
The event commenced at 2:30 PM in the college auditorium with an inaugural address by Dr. Praveen Kumar K. C., Principal of Besant Women’s College. Dr. Manjula K. T., Correspondent of Besant Women’s College and Vice President of WNES, was absent due to unforeseen circumstances.
Prof. Rajshekar Hebbar, the inaugurator of the event, delivered an inspiring speech emphasizing the significance of medicinal plants in promoting both mental and physical health. He highlighted how natural remedies have long been used to cure various ailments and encouraged students to explore the ancient wisdom of medicinal plants. He also stressed the importance of maintaining a stress-free life, stating that "a life free of tension and stress is a good life," and how medicinal plants can contribute to such a lifestyle by supporting mental well-being. Prof. Hebbar's speech left a lasting impression on the audience, urging them to prioritize both their mental and physical health through natural means.
The exhibition featured an array of medicinal plants, and students from various streams enthusiastically presented their projects. Each team showcased different plants, elaborating on their medicinal properties, practical applications, and how they contribute to human health. The event fostered a deep understanding of the crucial role plants play in healthcare, offering natural alternatives to pharmaceuticals.
Outcome of the Event:
The Sassya Sanjeevini exhibition provided students with a unique opportunity to learn about medicinal plants and their applications firsthand. Through research and presentation, students gained valuable knowledge on how these plants can be used to address various health issues. Additionally, the event underscored the importance of mindfulness and stress management, as highlighted by Prof. Hebbar. The students left with a renewed perspective on how lifestyle choices, including the use of medicinal plants, can improve their overall well-being.

The secretarial team, comprising Ms. Sana, Assistant Secretary (2nd B.Com), and Ms. Sudhrithi, Secretary (2nd B.Sc. General), efficiently handled the event organization.
The judges evaluated the exhibits based on creativity, scientific accuracy, and the ability to convey the medicinal benefits of the plants showcased. The enthusiasm displayed by the students and the educational impact of the exhibition marked the event as a great success.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the efforts of the organizers, participants, and faculty members who contributed to making Sassya Sanjeevini a fruitful and engaging event.
