Report on Chana Manay – A Traditional Game of Karnataka - Folk Culture Club
The Folk Culture Club organized a vibrant and engaging session on Chana Manay, a traditional game of Karnataka, on 28th March 2026 in Room No. F10 of the College, with the objective of promoting awareness about indigenous games and preserving regional cultural heritage among students. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across different classes, making it both informative and entertaining. About 35 students participated in the event.
The program commenced with a brief introduction to the significance of traditional games in Karnataka’s cultural history. The session was conducted by Ms. Vidya Bhat, who explained the origin, cultural relevance, and values associated with Chana Manay. She emphasized how such folk games were once an integral part of community gatherings and festivals, encouraging unity, strategic thinking, and coordination.
Ms. Vidya Bhat provided a detailed explanation of the pattern of playing the game. She demonstrated the layout, rules, and sequence of moves involved in Chana Manay. Students were guided through the step-by-step procedure, including the arrangement of materials, the method of play, scoring pattern, and winning criteria. She also highlighted the importance of concentration, quick decision-making, and teamwork while playing. Her clear instructions and live demonstration enabled students to understand the game thoroughly before participating in the competition rounds.
Following the demonstration, students actively took part in the game. The competition was conducted in multiple rounds, creating an atmosphere of excitement and healthy rivalry. Participants displayed remarkable enthusiasm, strategic planning, and sportsmanship throughout the event.
After a series of closely contested rounds, the following students emerged as winners:

The winners showcased excellent skill, presence of mind, and teamwork, earning appreciation from both the organizers and fellow participants.
The event concluded with words of encouragement from the faculty members, who appreciated the Folk Culture Club’s initiative in reviving and promoting traditional games. The session not only provided recreation but also strengthened students’ connection with the rich folk traditions of Karnataka.
