The Onam Pookalam competition, organized by the Student Union of Besant Women’s College, was held on 18th September 2024 from 2:30 PM onwards. Under the leadership of Union Advisor, Professor Ranjini, and her dedicated team, the event celebrated the rich cultural tradition of Onam with great enthusiasm.
Eight teams from BA, BCom, BBA, BCA, BSc General, and BSc Home Science participated in the competition. Each team displayed remarkable creativity and teamwork while designing their Pookalams.
The competition was judged by Professor Jnaneshwari from the Kannada Department and Professor Reshma Yathish from the Commerce Department, both respected faculty members of Besant Women’s College. Their evaluations were based on key criteria such as creativity, color harmony, design intricacy, and cultural relevance. Their role in the event highlighted the expertise and support of the college’s own faculty members.
Judgment Criteria:
- Creativity – Originality and uniqueness of the designs.
- Color Usage – Effective use and combination of flower petal colors.
- Design Complexity – The intricacy and balance of the patterns.
- Cultural Reflection – Representation of the spirit and traditions of Onam.
The student President, Ms. Deeksha and her team ensured that the event was seamlessly organized. Their efforts in managing the logistics, played a key role in making the competition a success.
Objectives:
- To foster a sense of cultural pride and unity among the students.
- To showcase both the talents of the participants and the cultural heritage
Outcomes:
- The vibrant designs added to the festive atmosphere of the campus, while the event itself encouraged collaboration and artistic expression.
The event reflected the essence of the festival—prosperity, joy, and unity.
