INAUGURATION OF MULTI SKILL DEVELOPMENT CERTIFICATE COURSE
Women Cell of BesantWomen’s College has organized an inauguration of multi skilldevelopment certificate course on 31.08.2017 at 10.30 a.m in Auditorium, PG Studies of Commerce. After invoking the blessings of Almightyby Ms Kavana of III B.Com (1), Dr. Sudha K from the Dept of Commerce and the Convenor of the Cell welcomed the gathering and introduced the Chief guest Smt. Chandrika S Nayak,Development Inspector, Karnataka State Women’s Development CorporationMangaluru, Inaugurator Smt.PoornimaShetty, CEO, Navodaya Grama Vikasa Charitable Trust, Mangaluru, Guests ofhonour, Shri Shyam Sundar Kamath, Secretary, WNES, and Shri Devanand Pai,Correspondent, Besant Women’s College. Shealso briefed about the relevance of the certificate course in the skill drivencompetitive market.
The inaugural ceremonybegan with the lighting of the lamp by Smt.Poornima Shetty . Chief Guest Smt.Chandrika S Nayak, explained the various schemes of the State Governments available for the empowerment of women in general and marginalized sections inparticular. She narrated the successful story of Smt. Radhika Nayak as to how an illiterate person could achieveeconomic empowerment through her entrepreneurial skills in making papads,snacks and other home products. Besides securing self-reliance of the self shehas also provided employment opportunities to many women of the locale.
Smt.Poornima Shetty enlightened the students on the significanceof the skill development, impact of the same on the women and the efficacy ofthe skill enhancement on their sustainable development. She told howNavodaya Grama Vikas Trust havemobilized 35000 self-help groups andtrained them towards their empowerment and promoted the marketing networks to market their products. She motivatedthe students to hone different types of skills to meet the current demands ofthe job market.
Shri Shyam Sundar Kamath, Secretary WNES toldstudents to imbibe the skill culture and instill the enlightened knowledgeimparted by both the Chief guests, make use of the opportunities of the programs and schemes ofthe Government leading to their developmental trajectory.
In his presidentialaddress, the Principal Dr. Sathish Kumar Shetty spoke on the endeavours of the women’s cell and called the students toparticipate actively in the activities of the cell. Sri Nidhi, StudentSecretary of the Women Cell proposed the vote of thanks.
