Inaugural Function of Konkani Bashaabhimani Sangh 2019
Association of KonkaniBashaabhimaani sangh conducted the inaugural function on 13th of August,2019 at the M.Com auditorium, Besant women’s college, Mangalore. The chiefguest of the program was Dr. K. Mohan Pai, founder member and president of theKarnataka State Konkani Linguistic Minorities Educational Institutions and theprogram was presided by Sri K. Devananda Pai, Correspondent of the college andthe secretary of Women’s National Education Society. Welcoming the gathering tothe association, the principal of the college, Dr. Sathish Kumar Shettyprecisely indicated the importance of the regional languages and their role inones cultural development. Introduction of the eminent guest was given by thesecretary of the association, Ms. Sharon Pinto of 3rd BBA. Coming tothe talk or rather say interactive session which was done by the chief guest ofthe day Dr. Mohan Pai, he says that the language is dying a slow death as onlylimited schools offer Konkani as a language option in their curriculum due towhich major of the konkan population are nothing but illiterates in theirmother tongue even though Konkani is a recognized language under the 8thschedule under Indian Constitution. In the interactive session conducted, Dr.Pai called upon students of the association to find the language written on theIndian currency, he gave them Konkani short story books to read which they wereunable to proving his point on being konkani illiterates. After this, encouragingthem to make efforts to learn this beautiful language and also to teach othersthe same.
