HRD Programme on Leadership and Communication Skills: HRD Cell
Introduction:
The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and Human Resource Development (HRD) Cell of Besant Women’s College successfully organized an HRD programme on 24th September 2024. The focus of the program was on developing leadership and communication skills among students, which are essential for their personal and professional growth.
The programme was inaugurated in the presence of distinguished guests, including Dr. Praveen Kumar K.C., the principal, and Prof. Ranjini, the Union Advisor. In her absence, Dr. Manjula K.T. conveyed her best wishes for the event’s success. The event featured two informative sessions led by experienced resource persons.
Inaugural Session:
The event started at 10:00 AM with an invocation, followed by the Welcome Address delivered by Ms. Chanchalakshi, the Convenor of the event. Ms. Chanchalakshi played a crucial role in organizing this event, ensuring that everything was well-planned and executed.
The traditional Lighting of the Lamp ceremony was conducted by the dignitaries, including Prof. Ranjini, marking the formal beginning of the programme. In his address, Dr. Praveen Kumar K.C. emphasized the importance of leadership and communication skills in shaping the future of students and shared valuable insights on their significance. The inaugural session concluded with a Vote of Thanks by the organizing committee.

Topic: Leadership Skills
The first session, led by Mr. Sanjay Shetty, focused on the essential leadership skills required for success. He discussed key elements such as self-awareness, decision-making, and problem-solving, which are crucial for effective leadership. Through engaging activities like role-playing, students were able to experience firsthand the challenges and solutions of leadership.
Session 2: Communication Skills

Resource Person: CA Sapna Kamath, Chartered Accountant
Topic : Communication Skills
The second session, conducted by CA Sapna Kamath, focused on improving communication skills, which are vital for connecting leaders and their teams. Ms. Kamath stressed the importance of both verbal and non-verbal communication. She introduced practical strategies for enhancing clarity and assertiveness, and interactive group discussions allowed students to practice these skills in a real-world context.
Conclusion:
The HRD programme proved to be a valuable experience for all participants. The interactive sessions and expert insights provided students with a better understanding of leadership and communication skills, equipping them for future challenges. Feedback from attendees indicated that the sessions were practical and insightful, with the content being immediately applicable.
