Hindi Day Celebration: Department of Hindi
The Hindi Day celebration took place at Besant Women’s College on 25th September 2024, with a focus on the significance of Hindi in uniting India’s diverse cultural heritage. Students from various streams—BA, BCom, BSc, BSc Home Science, BCA, and BBA—attended the event in large numbers, showcasing their enthusiasm for the language and the celebrations.
Dr. Nayak Rupashing G, Principal of Besant PU College, served as the Chief Guest, while Dr. Manjula K. T., Vice President of WNES and Correspondent of Besant Women’s College, was the Guest of Honour. The event was presided over by Dr. Praveen Kumar K. C., Principal of Besant Women’s College, with significant contributions from Mr. Chenna Keshava, a faculty member from the Hindi Department.
The program commenced with a prayer by Sangeeta, a 2nd-year BCA student, and was smoothly guided by Adithi from 2nd-year BA as the Master of Ceremony. A warm welcome address was delivered by Keerthana Shetty, Lecturer, followed by an insightful introduction from Dr. Parashuram G. Malage, Head of the Hindi Department, who emphasized Hindi's role in fostering national unity.
The Mehendi Certificate Course, organized by the Hindi Department, was one of the program's highlights. This course, designed to impart traditional Mehendi skills, was a month-long initiative aimed at equipping students with artistic and professional skills in Mehendi application. Many students from different streams actively participated, learning intricate designs and techniques. The course also encouraged self-employment opportunities, helping students develop a skill that could be used in various cultural and festive occasions. During the Hindi Day celebration, certificates were distributed to the participants, recognizing their successful completion of the course.
In his address, Chief Guest Dr. Nayak Rupashing G discussed the richness of Hindi literature, while Guest of Honour Dr. Manjula K. T. stressed the importance of promoting Hindi among the youth. Dr. Praveen Kumar K. C. underscored the role of educational institutions in fostering linguistic and cultural diversity.
Additionally, prizes were awarded for various competitions held in honor of Hindi Day, including an essay writing contest and a self-composed poem competition.
The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Asha, a 1st-year BA student, expressing gratitude to the dignitaries, faculty, and students for their participation and contributions to the success of the event.
This celebration not only paid tribute to the Hindi language but also highlighted the college’s commitment to promoting cultural traditions like Mehendi art, further enriching the students' academic and personal lives.
