Guest Lecture on Career in Corporate Nutrition: Department of PG Studies in Food Science & Nutrition

The Department of PG Studies in Food Science & Nutrition organized a guest lecture on the topic “Insights to library” on 18th December 2023 at 11.30 pm for the 1st & 2nd MSc students by Dr. Lokaraj VS, Librarian, Department of Library & Information Science, Besant Women’s College. The resource person first briefed the student on the OPAC (Open Public Access Catalog) system used in the library so that the students learn to search for the books available by entering the title, the students were asked to try it & were given hands on training. Next he explained on the usage on digital e-library of the college & explain the various features like the e-magazines, e-journals, e-newspapers & how to access them & logged in all the students to the same as well as asked them to use it on their cell phones. The speaker even explained on the different science based national & international journals like IJNS (International journal of Nursing Sciences), Avinashalingam journals that they can access & provided them with login credentials for usage.

Apart from this the students were illustrated on the usage of google scholar to access research articles for research purpose along with the various citation options available like APA, Havard, Chicago, MLA & Vancouver. He even explained on the digital object identifier (DOI) number & ISSN number along with their importance. On the whole, the whole session gave an opportunity to the students to understand better on various digital aspects of information science.
