Four Day Training on Shell Nxplorers Pro Programme : Dept. of PG Studies in FSN

The IQAC and Department of PG Studies in Food Science and Nutrition in association with Shell NXplorers Pro organized an intensive 4 days’ workshop on Shell NXplorers Pro Program for the M.Sc, final year B.SC FND and Home science students at Besant Women’s College, Mangaluru.

OBJECTIVE:

  • To inculcate the sense of social responsibility in the students.
  • To create awareness regarding the conservation of natural resources.

OUTCOME:

  • The students gained knowledge regarding the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) and how to formulate the problem as well as to come up with effective solutions for social related problems.

The workshop was inaugurated on 10th of January 2023, (Tuesday). The chief guest for the ceremony was Mrs. Anuradha Nithin and was presided by the Principal. In the first session, the resource erson, Mrs. Anuradha presented a detailed view of roles and responsibilities of NXplorers . The three stages: Explore, Create and Change of NXplorers which will help in NXthinking

  • About the BIG picture, to see beyond the pieces with broader perspective
  • About the Connections that will help to make complex problems easier to understand,
  • About the Perspectives that will help to understand the systems and their effect on the worlds,
  • About the Future to see how we can create change in any situation
  • About the Change to help us to see the barriers and inspire others for creating a sustainable future for all were explained.

The participants were grouped into 7 teams each consisting of 9-10 members. Activities were conducted to make students understand the NXthinking in more approachable way. The team members were asked to come up with the issue that they want to work on in general terms. The participants were randomly called upon the stage and were asked to draw connections between two different objects and the students were asked to identify five different aspects of NXthinking by the puzzle method.

The second day session of the four day workshop began with the briefing of the participants about the first stage of progamme i.e Explore. Each team was given worksheet and were asked to explore any pressing issue from three vital resources food, clean water and energy which needed to be changed. Using the explore tools such as connection circle tool to create a relationship between causes and effects , perspective tools to dig deeper into the issues the teams came up with the issues that need attention and were asked to arrive at two main leverage points. The participants were asked to read aloud the explored issue, followed by the causative factor.

In the third session of the workshop, the second stage of the program i.e to create was discussed upon. The resource person stressed on how important it is to think about actions that can bring about the positive change and consider what the future would be if nothing is changed. The teams were asked to use to create tools to determine the course of actions necessary to have a preferred future and what steps have to be taken using quadrant tool and the leverage point.

On the final session the resource person provided detailed knowledge on how to arrive at the solution that can be practically implemented to overcome the problem. The students were even encouraged to take up the initiative of presenting their project in the NXplorers conference to be held in the month of May.

The valedictory ceremony was held post the final session and was presided by the principal followed by the presence of Ms. Anuradha Nithin, where the students gave their feedback on the workshop and the certificates were distributed.
