Objective

The primary objective of the digital voting initiative was to ensure a fair, transparent, and efficient election process for the Union Council of the college. By utilizing the exclusively developed software, Besant e-voting, the aim was to enhance the voting experience for students and to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.

Introduction

On 24th August 2024, the Department of BCA of Besant Women's College conducted its 9th Union Council election using the Besant e-voting software. This innovative digital platform was developed to facilitate smooth and secure elections. The elections were held to elect the President, Secretary, and Joint Secretary of the student council. The digital voting process was carried out using three dedicated PC computers, each assigned for voting for the respective positions, distributed in two labs.

Overview of the Programme

The digital voting process began with the opening of the polling booths equipped with the dedicated PCs. The Besant e-voting software ensured a user-friendly interface, allowing students to cast their votes seamlessly. The elections were supervised by the committee members of e-voting, ensuring adherence to all guidelines and protocols.

Within two hours from the start of voting, the students enthusiastically participated in the voting process. The software's real-time tracking and secure database maintained the confidentiality and accuracy of the votes. Upon completion of the voting, the results were promptly and accurately tallied by the Besant e-voting system and verified physically through the attendance of the students by the Principal, Dr. Praveen Kumar K.C, Ms Ranjini, the student Council welfare officer, Mr. Gopalkrishna Raikar. The technical Head and other members of the committee.

The presence of esteemed faculty members, including Mr. Gopalkrishna Raikar (HoD), Ms. Keerthi Lakshmi, Mr. Ravinder Murthy, and Mr. Yagnesh, added to the credibility and smooth conduct of the election process.

Outcome of the Programme

The digital voting programme was a significant success, achieving its goal of conducting fair and efficient elections. The key outcomes included:

  1. Successful Election Process: The Besant e-voting software facilitated a smooth and transparent election, ensuring every student's vote was accurately recorded and counted and avoided multiple votes for the same post by any student.

  • Joint Secretary: Ms. Chaithra

The elected members were congratulated by the college faculty and students.
