Certificate Course In Pathological Techniques 2023 : Department of PG Studies in Food Science & Nutrition
A pre-assessment form was given to students and based on their interest in the learning more about the pathological techniques, the Department of PG studies in Food Science and Nutrition. in collaboration with the Accu labs, Valencia, Mangalore provided the M.Sc. students with a 42-hour certificate course in pathological techniques. The certificate course comprised 12 hours of theory & 30 hours of practical under Mr. Rajesh Lobo, Head of Operations, and Ms. Nireeksha V, Assistant Professor, M.Sc. FSN, Besant Women's College, Mangalore.
OBJECTIVE:
- To enhance the knowledge in pathological techniques.
- To provide hands on training in the pathological training
- To interpret the pathological results in assessing the diseases.
OUTCOME:
- Knowledge of pathological techniques used at laboratory levels for diagnosis of disease conditions
- Hands-on training of the laboratory techniques
- Basic understanding of pathological reports in the assessment of the disease.
REPORT
A certificate course was organized by the Department of PG studies in Food Science & Nutrition in association with ACCU labs Valencia, Mangalore. The inaugural of certificate course was held on 10th February 2023. The chief guest was Dr. Manjula KT, Correspondent , Besant Women’s College & the guest of honour Mr. Rajesh Lobo, head of operations, ACCU labs, Mangalore.
The certificate course comprised of 30 hours of practical & 12 hours of theory which mainly focused on enhancing the knowledge of young minds with respect to the pathological aspects which would be of great help in their clinical-oriented field. A total of 18 students had enrolled themselves for the course & were divided into batch of 6. Each batch was posted in the two different branches of ACCU labs located at Valencia & Ujjodi, Mangalore.
In the course period, the students were exposed to various aspects of pathological techniques which comprised of knowledge regarding different equipment used in the pathological lab, process of sample collection and estimation of blood parameters, immunological machines for hormone estimation, hematology analyzer for complete blood count.
In terms of theory part the students were educated about the safety measures in the laboratory, the ethics & responsibilities of MLT, vacutainers and their uses, sample collection & handling, and different laboratory tests. Based on the knowledge gained the students were evaluated in terms of internal as well as final examination which was multiple choice-based questions along with two assignments and a report writing.
The overall performance of the students were evaluated based on which there are awarded the certificates today. We hope the knowledge gained by them through this course will be of great help in their future.
The valedictory ceremony was held on 28th July 2023, at the Seminar Hall, MCom Block. The chief guest was Mr. Rajesh Lobo, head of operations, ACCU labs, Mangalore & the guest of honour was Dr. Praveen Kumar KC, NAAC coordinator & the dean of commerce & management. The principal presided the program and the IQAC coordinator Prof. Syed Kahdar was also present. The welcome address was done by Ms. Indira Badya, HOD, MSc FSN, followed by the chief guest address, the addressing of the gathering by the guest of honour. Ms. Nireeksha V, the incharge faculty read out the report of the course. The students were distributed with the certificate of completion. The principal delivered the presidential address and the program was concluded by the vote of thanks done by Ms. Ameera, Faculty, MSC FSN.
