Besant Women’s College, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), hosted a special event on 29th October 2024 to mark International Youth Red Cross Day. The event, held at 2:30 PM in the AV Room, brought together faculty, students, and esteemed guests to celebrate the spirit of humanitarian service.
The Chief Guest, Mr. Kishorchandra Hegde, Secretary of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) for the Dakshina Kannada District, delivered an inspiring address. He commemorated Manel Srinivas Nayak, the founder president of Besant Women’s College, highlighting his visionary contributions to women’s education. Mr. Hegde emphasized that Manel Srinivas Nayak's model of inclusive education, which admitted students regardless of caste, set a foundation for the college’s commitment to equality and empowerment. He encouraged Youth Red Cross members to follow Manel Srinivas Nayak's example by aiding those in need and upholding values of compassion and inclusivity.
Mr. Hegde further praised Besant Women’s College, noting that its rich legacy of excellence in education instills a sense of pride in its students. He advised students to bring laurels to the institution and to embody the college's values through their service.
Although unable to attend in person, Dr. Manjula K.T., Vice President of the Women’s National Education Society and Correspondent of Besant Women’s College, conveyed her good wishes to the Youth Red Cross members, encouraging them to excel in their endeavors.
Special Guests and Key Personnel:
Dr. Praveen Kumar K.C., Principal of Besant Women’s College, inaugurated the event with a speech that underscored the significance of community service.
Ms. Deekshitha T.S., Youth Red Cross Program Officer, meticulously managed the program, ensuring its success and smooth flow.
Ms. Sudhruthi, Secretary of 2nd BSc, and Ms. Sana, Secretary of 2nd BCom, represented the student body and assisted in organizing the program.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks, leaving participants motivated to continue contributing to society under the guidance of the Youth Red Cross.
