Aatidonji Dina: Folklore and Cultural Association
Aatidonji Dina was celebrated in Besant Women’s College on 7th August 2025 in the college auditorium. In a call to preserve cultural heritage and environmental harmony, renowned TV anchor and progressive farmer Naveen Shetty Edmeru emphasized the need for today’s youth to understand the significance of the Aati month and develop a deeper connection with the natural landscape of Tulu Nadu.
He was addressing the audience as the chief guest at the “Aatidonji Dina” (A Day in Aati) celebration held at Besant Women’s College, Mangaluru. The event was jointly organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Folklore and Cultural Association of the college.
In his keynote address, Mr. Edmeru shed light on the agricultural lifestyle and environmental wisdom of Tulu Nadu's ancestors. He explained how their food habits, daily routines, and medicinal practices during Aati were intricately linked with nature. He expressed hope that such traditional celebrations would serve as guiding lights for younger generations, helping them reconnect with their roots and sustainable ways of living.
The program was inaugurated by Dr. Manjula K.T., Vice President of the Women’s National Education Society and Director of the college, who lauded the rich cultural heritage of Tulu Nadu and stressed the importance of preserving it.
The event was presided over by Dr. Praveen Kumar K.C., Principal of the college. Other dignitaries on the dais included Dr. Satish K. (IQAC Coordinator), Prof. Ranjini Shetty (NAAC Coordinator), Dr. Giriyappa (Student Union Coordinator), and Prof. Vidya Bhatt (Head, Folklore and Cultural Association).
Prof. Raviraj S., member of the organizing committee and faculty member, welcomed the gathering. Ms. Sakshi D. Amin led the prayer, followed by a vote of thanks from Ms. Charitha, and compering by Ms. Meghashree Kulal.
Following the formal session, a vibrant cultural program was presented by lecturer Shaila Kamath along with students Ms. Nethra, Ms. Sakshi, Ms. Meghana G. Pai, and others.
The celebration also featured an exhibition of traditional Aati-month delicacies, prepared and showcased by students from various classes. The college NSS unit, under the guidance of Prof. Raviprabha, extended their active support in organizing the event.
The program served as a meaningful platform to revisit and revive the region's indigenous practices, inspiring the student community to embrace eco-cultural traditions with pride and responsibility.
