AAGHOSHAM - Grand Festive Celebration of Onam
On the 19th of September 2024, Besant Women’s College celebrated AAGHOSHAM, a Grand Festive Celebration of Onam, with vibrant and traditional fervor at the College Auditorium. The event was a grand tapestry of Kerala’s rich cultural heritage, with both students and faculty members donning traditional Kerala attire, weaving a beautiful portrait of unity and tradition.
The celebration commenced with a warm welcome ceremony featuring a traditional Chende Mella performed by a local boys' team. The rhythmic beats of the Chende Mella were the heartbeat of the program, enchanting the audience and infusing the festivities with an exhilarating energy.
Following the formal function, the festive spirit continued at the College Quadrangle, where students danced alongside the Chende Mella team. The rhythmic beats of the Chende Mella acted as a magical drumbeat, guiding the students’ feet in a dazzling display of traditional dance steps, creating a scene as vibrant as a festival of lights.
Elegance and Tradition: Faculty Performance
A standout moment of the event was the mesmerizing performance of the traditional Kerala dance, Thiruvathira, by the female faculty members under the leadership of Prof. Preetha Bhandary, the Dean of Languages. Their performance was a captivating mosaic of grace and tradition, beautifully executed and receiving heartfelt admiration from the student community. The Thiruvathira dance was like a delicate flower in full bloom, adding an elegant touch to the celebration and underscoring the faculty's dedication to preserving cultural heritage.
The AAGHOSHAM celebration of Onam was meticulously planned by the College Union Council, with the enthusiastic participation of Union leaders and students. The event was guided with a steady hand by Union Advisor Prof. Ranjini, whose leadership ensured the occasion was a vibrant carnival of joy and unity. Dr. Praveen K. C, the Principal, and other esteemed faculty members played a crucial role in supporting and endorsing the celebration, adding to its success.
