Description of the Programme:

The resource Person began the programme by highlighting the Importance of System security by saying that, it is crucial in today’s digital age to protect sensitive data from unauthorized access and cyber threats. It ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information, which are essential for maintaining trust and operational efficiency.

He spoke about the Advantages of having a System Security in place to:

Provide Protection Against Threat such as malware, phishing attacks, and other cyber threats.

Data Integrity maintenance to ensure that data remains accurate and unaltered during storage and transmission.

Compliance, Helps organizations comply with legal and regulatory requirements, avoiding potential fines and legal issues.

Business Continuity helps to minimizes downtime and ensures that business operations can continue smoothly even in the event of a security breach.

He pointed out that with the increasing number of cyber-attacks and data breaches, robust system security measures are more critical than ever. Organizations must adopt proactive security strategies to protect their assets and maintain customer trust.

He included some common terminologies in his talk on system security. Some terminologies are listed below:

Cryptography: The practice of securing information by transforming it into an unreadable format, only accessible to those with the decryption key.

Firewall: A network security device that monitors and controls incoming and outgoing network traffic based on predetermined security rules.

Malware: Malicious software designed to harm, exploit, or otherwise compromise a computer system.

Encryption: The process of converting information or data into a code to prevent unauthorized access1.

He concluded by saying the System Security was the need of the hour. The earlier it is implemented, the better.

The programme was attended by the staff of BCA comprising of Mr. Gopalkrishna A. Raikar, Ms. Naseera S, Ms. Siby M.A, Ms Keerthilaxmi and Ms. Lithika. The technical arrangements were taken care of by Mr. Ravinder Murthy and all the students of BCA.

Programme Outcome:

The students were able to grasp the essentials of System Security. There were some queries on System Security such as the application used for Cryptography, How a Digital Signature works, encryption and description. The resource person promised to have another session on specifically on Cryptography. The talk evinced keen interest on the topic and the students wanted to delve deeper into the aspects of System Security and would take the help of internet to know more about it.
