"SheEdits – Women shaping the wikipedia": IQAC & Department of Computer Application

The event "SheEdits – Women shaping the wikipedia" a programme on international Women’s day was organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Computer Application Department of Besant Women's College, Mangaluru in collaboration with the Karavali Wikimedians User Group, Mangaluru, and Centre for Internet & Society (CIS / A2K), Bengaluru. This one-day workshop took place in the computer lab on March 6th, from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM.


Dr. Manjula K. T., the Correspondent of BWC and Vice President of WNES, inaugurated the program and urged female students not to miss the opportunity presented to them. The Chief guest of the event, Mrs. Vinoda Prasad Rai, member of Karaavali Wikimedians User Group, shared insights on the impact of Wikimedia in bringing about changes and fostering interest in her life. She they provided guidance to all students on how to effectively use Wikimedia, edit the information and update existing information.

Mrs. Babitha , Workshop Co-ordinator and member of Karavali Wikimedians User Group gave a brief introduction about the group and its activities.

During the workshop, Resource Persons Bennett G. Ammanna, and Mrs. Kavitha Ganesh, members of Karavali Wikimedians User Group, shared their experiences on writing articles and how one can contribute to Wikipedia.

Prof. Rajashekar Hebbar C , the Administrative Officer of Besant institutions,Dr. Praveen Kumar K. C., the Principal , Besant Women’s College, Dr. Vishwanath Badikana , President of Karavali Wikimedians User Group, Mr. Gopalkrishna Raikar, H.O.D. of Computer Applications Department , Mrs. Naseera the convenor and all the staff and students of BCA were present.

27 students benefited from this workshop. Apart from Besant women’s College students, 4 students from St.Aloysius College( Deemed to be University) and 1 student from Canara College, Mangalore participated in this workshop. Students participated eagerly in the "SheEdits" program, which was conducted with great enthusiasm and success. Certificates were distributed to all the participants.
