ENGLISH LANGUAGE LABORATORY - 2019

June 25, 2019

The Language Laboratory plays an important role in the language learning

process. As it is a technological aid for learning, it has a number of advanced

facilities that can help a student to learn a language with proficiency to

communicate.

The Language Laboratory is an audio-visual installation used as an aid in modern

language teaching. It is an adequate place where a learner can undergo self-

learning experience at her own pace by practicing a host of exercises through

technology. They include Repetition exercises (word pronunciation, sentence

pronunciation). These are guided exercises. Their objective is to highlight specific

functional components within a language. For example: reflection on the

organization of a sentence.

SIGNIFICANCE AND RELEVANCE OF LANGUAGE LABORATORY

The significance of the language laboratory has been much felt in the domain of

communication.

In Besant Women’s College, the English Language Laboratory is designed to help

students to learn pronunciation, accent, stress and all other aspects of the

phonetics of English.

As the ability to communicate effectively has become the prerequisite for anyone

who ventures into a new profession, the need for developing such a skill is a much

felt phenomenon today.

OBJECTIVES

Language Laboratory is used to teach grammar, business linguistics, writing,

listening and communicative skills.

It is also useful in maintaining good linguistic competence through accuracy in

grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary.

It helps them to use language effectively to face interviews, group discussions and

public speaking.

ADVANTAGES AND BENEFITS OF LANGUAGE LABORATORY

Earphones and headphones deliver undistorted sound directly to the ears. This

provides ideal conditions for intensive learning. The direct sound transmission

gives step by step guidance to the students with crystal clear clarity.

The lab software is more attention enthralling for the students when they are

engaged with individual systems.

The English language speaking is practiced in a focused setting that eliminates the

feelings of self-consciousness.

It is easy to guide the group by monitoring each student independently without

disturbing the other students.

The teacher sends messages to guide learners with their work. The teacher also

initiates a text chat session with single or multiple learners. In this, feedback from

students can be given on the spot.
